The Vervet Monkey Foundation has both a census team and a patrol team. They work separately and together for the welfare of wild vervet monkeys
in South Africa. Our Vervet Forest programme aims to reclaim or restore habitat through the acquisition of land for the release of rehabilitated vervet monkey troops.

At the Vervet Monkey Foundation, we are as interested about vervets and vervet troops in your area as much as the monkeys on our foundation. Therefore, to connect with residents, schools, businesses, hospitals, etc
we offer our Monkey Patrol Team. Our team of trained and educated VMF volunteers will visit anyone who calls or emails us with concerns, questions, or information about vervet monkeys in their area. In the past we have set up feeding stations, put up mesh windows, and given training seminars on how to deter monkeys. We will tailor each solution to the needs of the situation. We also offer fun and educational assemblies for schools. Our goal is to set up a community that respects and values the vervet monkey and therefore lives symbiotically with them for generations to come.

Our Monkey Patrol Team is always happy to stop by, free of charge, to do a site inspection and address your questions and concerns.

The Monkey Census involves a team of volunteers who regularly go out tracking, and counting vervet troops. We record their movement, behaviors, home range, and possible threats. Currently there is no official population count of vervet monkeys; our team is dedicated to recording an accurate count with the hopes of using the information to benefit the remaining
vervet populations.

With an accurate count we can protect vervet monkeys throughout Africa by modifying and/or creating new legislation in order to protect the species in the future. Now that we know the important role vervets play in Africa’s ecosystem, we can dedicate our data to preserving this species.
